OxyChem-Mexichem JV awards US ethylene storage facility...

Ingleside Ethylene has awarded a $115m contract to CB&I to construct an ethylene storage facility in Markham, Texas, US.

Under the contract, the company will manage engineering, procurement and construction activities of the project.

The contract covers surface facilities, including compression, dehydration, metering and associated pipe fabrication at the salt cavern storage location.

"The ethylene cracker is a significant project both for OxyChem and Mexichem, and the award of this project reflects the quality of work CB&I has provided to date."

The storage facility is part of an ethylene cracker at the complex.

CB&I has provided the license for the ethylene technology, five short residence time (SRT) cracking heaters, as well as engineering, procurement and construction services for the ethylene cracker.

CB&I engineering and construction operating group president Patrick Mullen said: "The ethylene cracker is a significant project both for OxyChem and Mexichem, and the award of this project reflects the quality of work CB&I has provided to date.

"It shows the customers' confidence in CB&I's ability to offer a more complete supply chain solution, from proven licensed process technology, fabrication and engineered products, all the way through to the EPC process."

Ingleside Ethylene is a 50 / 50 joint venture of Occidental Chemical and Mexichem.

The $1.5bn ethylene cracker facility is being built at OxyChem's existing site in San Patricio County, Texas. It will feature cracking furnaces with selective catalytic reduction technology to produce approximately 1.2 billion pounds of ethylene annually.

The project will support the region with 1,700 construction jobs and 150 permanent jobs.
